Nepean squeaks by Brockville, 3-2Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Wed, Jan 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Nepean Raiders escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Brockville Braves. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Mitchell Herlihey's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. Kenneth Neil had two goals to lead Nepean to victory. Neil found the back of the net short handed 10:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Nepean and again while 8:26 into the second to make the score 3-1 Nepean. The Raiders put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brockville to score on any of its three power plays. Nepean forced the Braves goalie Andrew Pikul to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. In addition, Nepean received assists from Dalen Hedges, who had two and Wyatt Coghill and Michael Vered, who contributed one a piece. Brockville's offense rang up 34 shots on the Raiders' net. The Braves' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Brockville was led by Zach Todd, who registered two goals. Todd scored the first of his two goals at 33 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Chris Roll assisted on the tally. Todd's next tally made the score 3-2 Nepean with 5:02 left in the second period. Hayden Hulton picked up the assist. More assists for Brockville came via Ben Blasko and Erik Brown, who each chipped in one. Nepean's Ryan Mulder stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Raiders incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Pikul recorded 31 saves for the Braves. Brockville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
