Smith, Pembroke blank Cornwall, 4-0

Darren Smith made 45 saves to complete the shutout and led the Pembroke Lumber Kings to a 4-0 win against the Cornwall Colts.

Stephen Hrehoriak had two goals to lead Pembroke to victory. Hrehoriak scored at 1:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke and again while 12:01 into the second to make the score 4-0 Pembroke.

The Lumber Kings stifled Cornwall's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pembroke's defensive play was more effective than usual against the Colts. The Lumber Kings average 2.9 goals allowed per game.

Pembroke also got a goal from Jordan Boucher-Gould as well. More assists for Pembroke came via Derek Diaz, who had two and Charlie Connell, Cody Trowell, Ryan Erickson, and Ben Dalpe, who each chipped in one.

Cornwall was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Colts surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Cornwall excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Colts were held below their usual level of production. Cornwall puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. The Colts' offense rang up 45 shots on Pembroke's net.

The Lumber Kings ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Pembroke ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dalpe was ejected from the game. Cornwall took out James Edwardson after he had made 20 saves and installed Jordan Piccolino in goal, where he finished with two saves and the loss. The Colts registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For Cornwall, Khalid Alli was ejected from the game.
