Ammirato's big game bests Kanata in 8-4 Hawkesbury win

Roman Ammirato was all over the ice for the Hawkesbury Hawks, as he tallied two goals and four assists in Hawkesbury's 8-4 win over the Kanata Stallions.

Ammirato found the back of the net 6:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hawkesbury and again while 13:52 into the third to make the score 5-4 Hawkesbury.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Hawkesbury gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Hawks' offense rang up 34 shots on Kanata's net. Hawkesbury bested its season scoring average. The Hawks have scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Hawkesbury also got points from Yanik Laliberte, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, Holden Anderson, who also finished with two goals and two assists, and Brett Varrin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Travis Meyer also scored for Hawkesbury. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Carl Faucher, who had three and Mathieu Galipeau, William Plamondon, and Ryan Kruss, who each chipped in one.

The Stallions were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time.

Kanata was helped by Brandon Petrie, who racked up one goal. Petrie scored on the power play 5:41 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Hawkesbury. The Stallions had gained a power play chance when Carmine Guerriero was whistled for slashing. Fabian Walsh picked up the assist. Kanata additionally got points from Devin Fullum, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Kanata also got a goal from Derian Plouffe as well. In addition, Kanata received assists from Braedan Moffatt, who had two and Curtis Watson, JJ Hart, and Connor Cobbold, who contributed one a piece.

Hawkesbury's Guerriero stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Brandon Lane rejected 26 shots on goal for Kanata. The Stallions ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nic LaBurn was ejected from the game.
