Brockville vanquishes Smiths Falls in shootout, 6-5 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brockville Braves defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 6-5 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Smiths Falls got shootout goals from Yannick Crete and Daniele Disipio. In addition to the clincher, Brockville got shootout goals from Ben Blasko and Griffen Molino.

David Ferreira had two goals and one assist to lead the Braves. Ferreira scored the first of his two goals at 18:34 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Brockville. Chris Roll assisted on the tally. Ferreira's next tally made the score 3-1 Brockville with 14:24 left in the second period. Brockville had taken the advantage when the Bears' Patrick Sexton got sent off for holding. Zach Todd provided the assist.

Smiths Falls was unable to stop the Braves from sending pucks towards the net, and Brockville eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Braves surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Brockville averages 3.6 goals per contest. The Braves' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the Bears' power play unit.

Brockville also got points from Blasko, who also had one goal and two assists. Brockville also got a goal from Shane Riddell as well. More assists for Brockville came via Cory Wilson, who had one and Anthony Pino, who had two.

Smiths Falls forced Brockville goalie Andrew Pikul to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Bears were led by Crete, who tallied one goal and two assists. Crete scored on the power play 14:48 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Brockville. A roughing after whistle penalty on Brett Garvey had put Smiths Falls on the power play. Jeffrey Carroll assisted on the tally. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Carroll, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jake Butler also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Karson McCartney, who had one and Jesse Lussier, Blaine Byron, and Tyler Akeson, who each chipped in two.

Pikul rejected 29 shots on goal for the Braves. Brockville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Bears' Patrick Martin stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Smiths Falls incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
