Huge game by Pontarelli boosts Cornwall over Cumberland, 5-2

Michael Pontarelli had one goal and two assists to lead the Cornwall Colts to a 5-2 victory over the Cumberland Grads.

Pontarelli beat Reilly Turner with a shot 15:03 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cornwall. Pontarelli dished an assist on Mitch Zion's goal that made the score 2-1 Cornwall at 16:07 into the first period. He added another helper on Marly Quince's goal that made the score 4-2 Cornwall at 19:50 into the second period.

Cornwall put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cumberland to score on any of its three power plays. The Colts' offense rang up 41 shots on the Grads' net.

Cornwall additionally got points from Quince, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Stephen Johnson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cornwall also got a goal from Khalid Alli as well. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Carl Belizario, Andrew Ming, Billy Ulrick, and Tanner Spink, who contributed one a piece.

Cumberland was helped by Justin Pelock, who grabbed one goal. Pelock scored 30 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-2. Travis Douglas picked up the assist. David Bennett also scored for Cumberland. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Colin Kruse and Mark Golberg, who each chipped in one.

James Edwardson recorded 19 saves for Cornwall. The Colts incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Reilly Turner made 36 saves for the Grads on 41 shots. Cumberland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Grads ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nicholas Leguerrier was ejected from the game.
