Cornwall uses shootout to best Kanata, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cornwall Colts defeated the Kanata Stallions in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Cornwall forced Kanata goalie Brandon Lane to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Colts were helped by Michael Pontarelli, who grabbed one goal. Pontarelli scored 26 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall. Mitch Zion provided the assist. Carl Belizario also scored for Cornwall. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Andrew Ming, Pietro Antonelli, and Jake Martin, who each chipped in one.

The Stallions' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Cornwall power plays.

Kanata was helped by Connor Cobbold, who had one goal. Cobbold scored 17:10 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Braedan Moffatt picked up the assist. Kanata also got a goal from Derian Plouffe as well. More assists for Kanata came via Curtis Watson, JJ Hart, and Doug Harvey, who contributed one a piece.

Cornwall's Jordan Piccolino stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Colts incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brandon Lane made 33 saves for the Stallions on 35 shots. Kanata incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
