Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cumberland Grads defeated the Pembroke Lumber Kings in a shootout 7-6 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Cumberland overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Grads was down 6-5 after a power play goal by Pembroke's Ben Dalpe at 12:33 in the third period. Cumberland tied things up at 6-6 on a goal by Eric Clitsome at 16:45 in the third period. The Grads kept the Lumber Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darren Smith made 33 saves on 40 shots. Cumberland surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Grads average 3.0 goals per game. Cumberland was helped by Sean Naish, who had two goals. Naish scored the first of his two goals at 4:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Colin Kruse assisted on the tally. Naish's next tally made the score 5-4 Cumberland with 17:57 left in the third period. Brett Faber picked up the assist. Cumberland also got points from Mark Golberg, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Matthew Morin also scored for Cumberland. More assists for Cumberland came via Andrew DeBrincat, who had three, Chris King and David Higgs, who contributed one a piece, and Travis Douglas and Connor Currie, who each chipped in two. The Grads were unable to stop Pembroke from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumber Kings eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Pembroke outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Lumber Kings average 3.6 goals per contest. Pembroke's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Lumber Kings were led by Brendan Mcguire, who finished with one goal and three assists. Mcguire scored 10:06 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Philippe Drouin assisted on the tally. Pembroke additionally got points from Drouin, who also registered one goal and two assists and Dalpe, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Pembroke also got a goal from Stephen Hrehoriak as well. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Emilio Audi, who had three and Michael Crocock and Jordan Larson, who contributed one a piece. Cumberland's Reilly Turner stopped 26 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Grads incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Pembroke incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
