In hotly contested affair, Cumberland beats Pembroke, 5-4

The Cumberland Grads beat the Pembroke Lumber Kings 5-4 in a hard-fought contest that saw the lead change hands four times.

Cumberland got the win behind a great game by Mark Golberg, who had one goal and two assists. Golberg scored 15:33 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Sean Naish assisted on the tally.

The Grads made Lumber Kings' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 39 shots and forcing 34 saves. Darren Smith made 20 stops and Andy Munroe made 14. Cumberland surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Grads average 2.9 goals per contest.

Cumberland additionally got points from Colin Kruse, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Naish, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Andrew DeBrincat also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Chris King, who had one and David Higgs and Connor Currie, who contributed two a piece.

Pembroke was helped by Timmy Moore, who tallied one goal. Moore scored 12:51 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Pembroke. Liam Biard picked up the assist. Pembroke also got points from Stephen Hrehoriak, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Pembroke also got a goal from Sam Gleason as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Michael Crocock, Charlie Connell, Brendan Mcguire, Emilio Audi, Ben Dalpe, and Jordan Larson, who each chipped in one.

Cumberland's Reilly Turner stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Grads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Lumber Kings totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Pembroke ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordan Boucher-Gould was ejected from the game.
