Nepean wins tough contest against Ottawa, 4-3Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Sun, Jan 06, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Nepean Raiders and the Ottawa Senators were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Nepean made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Phil Nasca at 17:04 of the second period. The Raiders got the win with help from a great game by Nasca, who had two goals and one assist. Nasca scored the first of his two goals at 16:44 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Alexander Vazquez picked up the assist. Nasca's next tally made the score 4-3 Nepean with 2:56 left in the second period. Brandon Watt assisted on the tally. Nepean's offense rang up 37 shots on Ottawa's net. Nepean additionally got points from Watt, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Cameron Yarwood, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Nepean came via Stephan Beauvais, Mitchell Herlihey, and Steven Johnston, who each chipped in one. The Senators stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ottawa kept Nepean's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Mulder made 33 saves on 36 shots. The Senators were led by Ben Robillard, who racked up one goal and one assist. Robillard scored on the power play 8:30 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ottawa. Ottawa had taken the advantage when the Raiders' Zach Rodier got sent off for tripping. Owen Werthner provided the assist. Ottawa also got points from Ryan Collins, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Chad Millett as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Joey Champigny and Michael Evelyn, who contributed one a piece. Nepean incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Senators' Charlie Millen stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Ottawa incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
