Collins nets hat trick, leads Ottawa to 5-3 win over Smiths Falls

The Smiths Falls Bears could not stop the Ottawa Senators' Ryan Collins, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-3 win.

Collins got on the scoresheet 10:47 into the second period. He then added goals at 14:54 into the second and at 18:58 into the second.

Smiths Falls' power play was ineffective against Ottawa's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Senators put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bears to score on any of their six power plays. Ottawa forced Smiths Falls goalie Patrick Martin to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Luc Deschamps also scored for Ottawa. More assists for Ottawa came via Joey Champigny, Eric Witzel, Chad Millett, Ben Robillard, and Michael Evelyn, who each chipped in one and Owen Werthner and Derek Brown, who contributed two a piece.

The Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Smiths Falls was helped by Daniele Disipio, who finished with one goal. Disipio scored 1:55 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Nic Marchand provided the assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Cameron Romoff as well. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Neil Doef, Connor McLaren, and Jeffrey Carroll, who each chipped in one.

The Senators' Charlie Millen stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Ottawa incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Patrick Martin made 31 saves for the Bears on 36 shots. Smiths Falls incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
