Smiths Falls outlasts Nepean, 5-3

The Smiths Falls Bears and the Nepean Raiders were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Smiths Falls made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Karson McCartney at 14:52 of the third period.

The Bears got the win with help from a great game by Nic Marchand, who had two goals and one assist. Marchand scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Smiths Falls. Smiths Falls had gained a power play chance when Zach Rodier was whistled for head contact. Chris Maniccia picked up the assist. Marchand's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 19:03 left in the third period. Blaine Byron provided the assist.

The Bears kept Nepean's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Zawadzki made 26 saves on 31 shots.

Smiths Falls also got points from Maniccia, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Connor McLaren also scored for Smiths Falls. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Jesse Lussier, Chris MacMillan, Jeffrey Carroll, and Patrick Sexton, who contributed one a piece.

The Raiders forced Smiths Falls goalie Patrick Martin to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Nepean was led by Dalen Hedges, who finished with one goal and two assists. Hedges scored on the power play 19:45 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Nepean. The Raiders had taken the advantage when the Bears' Marchand got sent off for high sticking. Kenneth Neil assisted on the tally. Nepean additionally got points from Mitchell Herlihey, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Nepean also got a goal from Brandon Watt as well. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Vincent Llorca, who had one.

Patrick Martin made 29 saves for Smiths Falls on 32 shots. The Bears totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. Smiths Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Yannick Crete was ejected from the game. Nepean incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
