Kanata falls to Cumberland after surprising comebackKanata Recreational Complex Tue, Dec 11, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cumberland Grads climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Kanata Stallions, 5-4. Cumberland let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Grads took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Sean Naish at 5:33 in the first period. Cumberland went down 4-2 after Kanata's Fabian Walsh put the puck home short handed at 19:48 in the second period. After knotting things up at 4-4 on a goal by Mitch Allen at 10:58 in the third, the Grads got the game-winner from Travis Douglas at 14:36 in the third period. Cumberland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kanata power plays. The Grads kept the Stallions' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brayden St-Germain made 30 saves on 35 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Bobby Williams, Chris King, Eric Clitsome, and Matthew Morin, who each chipped in one and Andrew DeBrincat and David Higgs, who contributed two a piece. Kanata forced Cumberland goalie Reilly Turner to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Stallions were helped by Joe Breslin, who grabbed one goal. Breslin scored 16:58 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brandon Petrie provided the assist. Kanata also got a goal from Reid Murphy as well. More assists for Kanata came via Cole Hutchinson, Curtis Watson, C Blakely, Devin Fullum, and Braedan Moffatt, who each chipped in one. Turner rejected 33 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kanata incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
