Smiths Falls wins tough contest against Carleton Place, 3-2Smiths Falls Memorial Centre Fri, Dec 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Smiths Falls Bears gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Carleton Place Canadians. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Chris Maniccia secured the win for Smiths Falls with a goal in the third period. Maniccia was all over the ice for the Bears, as he finished with two goals in the win. Carleton Place's power play was ineffective against Smiths Falls' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Bears kept the Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Oneill made 31 saves on 34 shots. Blaine Byron also scored for Smiths Falls. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Yannick Crete, Michael McKenney, Connor McLaren, and Brett Costello, who contributed one a piece. Carleton Place excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Canadians' offense rang up 35 shots on Smiths Falls' net. Carleton Place was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Canadians were helped by Brock Edwards, who grabbed one goal. Edwards scored on the power play 4:42 into the third period to make the score 2-2. A slashing penalty on Adam Abu-Ali had put Carleton Place on the power play. Kevin Dufour picked up the assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Tyson Stewart as well. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Jackson Howe, Luke Edwards, and Luke Martin, who each chipped in one. Patrick Martin recorded 33 saves for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Canadians ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Stewart was ejected from the game.
