Ottawa hangs on, beats Gloucester 1-0

The Ottawa Senators beat the Gloucester Rangers, 1-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Joey Champigny provided Ottawa with the game-winning tally when he scored 1:34 into the the first period. Paul Landry picked up the assist.

The Senators were led by Champigny, who had one goal.

Ottawa stifled Gloucester's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Senators did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Ottawa averages 3.7 goals per game. The Senators' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Rangers. Ottawa averages 2.7 goals allowed per game. The Senators kept Gloucester's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan BrindAmour made 40 saves on 41 shots.

In addition, Ottawa received assists from Chad Millett, who had one.

The Rangers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Ottawa power plays. Gloucester was held below its usual level of production. The Rangers put an average of 2.7 pucks into the net per game.

Charlie Millen made 15 saves for Ottawa on 15 shots. The Senators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Gloucester incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
