Herlihey's hat trick boosts Nepean over Cornwall, 5-1

Mitchell Herlihey lifted the Nepean Raiders to a 5-1 victory with a hat trick against the Cornwall Colts.

Herlihey's first goal came 5:47 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:48 into the first and at 16:35 into the third.

Nepean's Ryan Mulder was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Mulder will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.44.

The Raiders excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Nepean additionally got points from Vincent Llorca, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Nepean also got a goal from Phil Nasca as well. In addition, Nepean received assists from Kenneth Neil, who had two and Dalen Hedges and Cameron Yarwood, who contributed three a piece.

Cornwall did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Colts put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. Cornwall's offense rang up 32 shots on Nepean's net. Penalties took their toll on the Colts, as their penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

Cornwall was led by Roman Ammirato, who scored the team's only goal. Ammirato scored 1:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Nepean. Michael Pontarelli picked up the assist.

The Raiders ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For Nepean, Mike Milito and Yarwood were ejected from the contest. The Colts' starting goalie, James Edwardson, made 24 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jordan Piccolino, who stopped one shot. Cornwall ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Colts ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tanner Spink was ejected from the game.
