Ottawa outlasts Cornwall, 3-2Ed Lumley Arena Sun, Nov 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Ottawa Senators escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Cornwall Colts. Ottawa gained the winning advantage on a goal by Hunter Racine 14:31 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The Senators were sparked by Racine, who had one goal and one assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:48 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Ottawa's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Cornwall power plays. Cornwall was unable to stop the Senators from sending pucks towards the net, and Ottawa eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Ottawa also got points from Eric Witzel, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Michael Evelyn as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Marc Shanks, Riley Hennigar, Greg Jansz, and Joey Champigny, who contributed one a piece. The Colts were helped by Trent Durocher, who grabbed one goal. Durocher scored 17:29 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Billy Ulrick picked up the assist. Michael Pontarelli also scored for Cornwall. More assists for Cornwall came via Andrew Ming, Jake Martin, and Tanner Spink, who each chipped in one. Charlie Millen made 24 saves for the Senators on 26 shots. Ottawa totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Senators ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Thierry Gibeault was ejected from the game. Jordan Piccolino rejected 28 shots on goal for Cornwall. The Colts ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Cornwall, Jason Suvak was ejected from the game.
