Ottawa uses shootout to best Cornwall, 6-5 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Cornwall Colts in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams.

Ottawa came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Senators fell behind 5-3 after a power play goal by Cornwall's Roman Ammirato at 13:23 in the third period. Ottawa knotted things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Greg Jansz at 15:41 in the third period.

The Senators was paced on offense by Ben Robillard and Ryan Collins, who combined for six points. Robillard registered two goals and one assist and Collins also notched one goal and two assists.

Ottawa kept the Colts' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Piccolino made 33 saves on 39 shots. The Senators' goal total was higher than their season average. Ottawa has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Ottawa additionally got points from Collins, who also had one goal and two assists and Jansz, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Michael Evelyn also scored for Ottawa. More assists for Ottawa came via Stephen Inman, Mike Martin, and Luc Deschamps, who each chipped in one.

Cornwall also got a goal from Michael Pontarelli as well. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Carl Belizario, Marly Quince, Mitch Zion, Tanner Spink, and Stephen Johnson, who contributed one a piece.

Charlie Millen rejected 18 shots on goal for the Senators. Ottawa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Senators ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Owen Werthner was ejected from the game. Cornwall totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For the Colts, Kevin Sarrazin was ejected from the game.
