Hawkesbury vanquishes Brockville in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Hawkesbury Hawks defeated the Brockville Braves in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Brockville got a shootout goal from Ben Blasko. In addition to the clincher, Hawkesbury got a shootout goal from Pietro Antonelli.

The Hawks overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Hawkesbury trailed 1-0 after a goal by the Braves' Griffen Molino at 2:49 in the second period. The Hawks tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Antonio Roumeliotis at 15:48 in the third period.

Hawkesbury was led by goalie Carmine Guerriero, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Guerriero certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.85 entering the contest.

Brockville was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hawkesbury eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Yanik Laliberte and Brandon Bussey, who contributed one a piece.

The Braves put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hawks to score on any of their three power plays. Brockville was held below its usual level of production. The Braves average 3.3 goals per game.

More assists for Brockville came via Anthony Pino, who had one.

Hawkesbury ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Holden Anderson was ejected from the game. Brockville's Matthew Jenkins stopped 35 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Braves totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Brockville, Ryan Walter was ejected from the game.
