Millen leads Ottawa to shutout victory over Nepean

Charlie Millen made 30 saves to complete the shutout and led the Ottawa Senators to an 8-0 win against the Nepean Raiders.

Michael Evelyn was all over the ice for Ottawa, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Evelyn scored 3:27 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. Joey Champigny assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:13 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Senators forced Nepean's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 44 shots and forcing 36 saves. Matt Zawadzki made 17 stops and Ryan Mulder made 19. Ottawa was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Senators average 2.8 goals allowed per game. Ottawa found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Senators have scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Ottawa also got points from Ryan Collins, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Marc Shanks, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Paul Landry as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Eric Witzel, who had two, Luc Deschamps, who had three, and Owen Werthner, Cameron Roth, and Mike Martin, who contributed one a piece.

The Raiders could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Nepean puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game.

Ottawa totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Senators ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Champigny was ejected from the game. The Raiders totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. For Nepean, Keenan Hodgson was ejected from the game.
