Nepean hangs on, beats Smiths Falls 2-1Smiths Falls Memorial Centre Fri, Nov 16, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Nepean Raiders took the lead against the Smiths Falls Bears in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory. A goal 7:44 into the the first period by Kenneth Neil proved to be the game winner, and powered Nepean to the victory Keenan Hodgson picked up the assist.The Raiders were led by goalie Matt Zawadzki, who finished with 39 saves while allowing one goal. Zawadzki certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.49 entering the contest. Nepean was led by Dalen Hedges, who tallied one goal. Hedges scored 14:11 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Nepean. Neil assisted on the tally. The Raiders forced Bears' netminders to work in net, ripping 32 shots and forcing 30 saves. Patrick Martin made seven stops and Jimmy Howe made 23. Nepean excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Raiders could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Nepean puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Nepean also got points from Neil, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Steven Johnston, who had one. Smiths Falls stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bears did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Smiths Falls averages 4.3 goals per game. The Bears forced Nepean goalie Zawadzki to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Smiths Falls was led by Connor McLaren, who scored the team's only goal. McLaren scored 18:36 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Nepean. Ryan Eardley provided the assist. The Raiders incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
