Cornwall holds on for 5-3 win against Gloucester

The Gloucester Rangers tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Cornwall Colts would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

Cornwall made the score 5-1 on a goal by Michael Pontarelli at 13:28 in the third period, and Gloucester got as close as 5-3 when Chad Millett scored 18:19 into the third period.

Marly Quince had two goals and one assist to lead the Colts. Quince scored the first of his two goals at 7:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall. Pontarelli provided the assist. Quince's next tally made the score 4-1 Cornwall with 22 seconds left in the second period. A tripping penalty on Christian Leger had put Cornwall on the power play. Pontarelli picked up the assist.

The Colts forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. Cornwall surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Colts forced the Rangers goalie Gunner Rivers to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Cornwall additionally got points from Pontarelli, who also registered one goal and three assists and Mitch Zion, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cornwall also got a goal from Alexandre Gendron as well. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Roman Ammirato, who had one and Andrew Ming, who had two.

Gloucester found itself short handed often, totaling 22 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Gloucester also got points from Alexandre Boivin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Patrick White also scored for Gloucester. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Matt Rosebrook, who had two and Daniel Baslyk and Samuel Quaranta, who each chipped in one.

James Edwardson rejected 24 shots on goal for Cornwall. Team's Nicholas Santoro and Sheehan Kirkwood were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Rivers recorded 31 saves for the Rangers. Gloucester registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Rangers, Kyle Leduc and Quaranta were ejected from the contest.
