Nepean downs Kemptville in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Wed, Nov 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Nepean Raiders pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Kemptville 73s on a clutch goal by Keenan Hodgson. Although Nepean was up by as many as five goals in the second period, Kemptville kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The 73s got to within 5-4 on a goal by Brett Varrin at 13:23 in the third period. The Raiders got the win on the strength of a great game by Hodgson, who had two goals and one assist. Hodgson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:39 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Nepean. Nepean earned a power play opportunity when Hayden Hanson was put in the box for hooking. Phil Nasca assisted on the tally. Hodgson's next tally on the power play made the score 6-5 Nepean with 18:16 left in overtime. Kenneth Neil picked up the assist. The Raiders forced Kemptville's goaltenders to work all game long, ripping 39 shots and forcing 33 saves. Jacob Tugnutt made 14 stops and Billy Cooper made 19. Nepean excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Nepean additionally got points from Brent Norris, who also registered one goal and one assist and Nasca, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Dalen Hedges also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Brandon Watt, Wyatt Coghill, and Steven Johnston, who contributed one a piece. The Raiders were unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Kemptville eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The 73s bested their season scoring average. This season, Kemptville averages 2.4 goals per contest. The 73s were led by Lucas Gonu, who tallied three goals. Kemptville also got points from Blaine Byron, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Kemptville came via Mason Nowak, who had two and Jacob Smith, Jake Butler, Cody Hendsbee, and Jesse Lussier, who each chipped in one. Matt Zawadzki recorded 33 saves for Nepean. The Raiders incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kemptville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
