GAME RECAP

Kanata uses shootout to best Hawkesbury, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Kanata Recreational Complex    Tue, Nov 13, 2012

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

Kanata overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Stallions was down 1-0 after a power play goal by Hawkesbury's Jean-Pierre Larmoyeux at 3:31 in the second period. Kanata tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Derian Plouffe at 12:31 in the third period.

The Stallions were led by goalie Brandon Lane, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal. Lane managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.65 prior to the game.

The Hawks were unable to stop Kanata from sending pucks towards the net, and the Stallions eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

More assists for Kanata came via JJ Hart and Doug Harvey, who contributed one a piece.

Hawkesbury stifled Kanata's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks forced the Stallions goalie Lane to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Travis Meyer and Pietro Antonelli, who each chipped in one.

Kanata incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hawkesbury's Carmine Guerriero stopped 30 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Hawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Hawkesbury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mac Blanchette was ejected from the game.
