Carleton Place penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Cumberland

The Cumberland Grads failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Carleton Place Canadians shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Cumberland was unable to stop Carleton Place from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadians eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Carleton Place was helped by Alex Globke, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Globke scored on the power play 17:59 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Carleton Place. The Canadians earned a power play opportunity when Yan Lagace was put in the box for high sticking. Evan Peterson picked up the assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Kevin Dufour as well. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Larry Smith and Stephen Bayliss, who each chipped in one.

The Grads were helped by Zach Rodier, who had two goals. Rodier scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. Cumberland had gotten the advantage when Carleton Place's Devin Campbell was sent off for cross checking. Eric Clitsome assisted on the tally. Rodier's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 7:31 left in the second period. Trevor Packard provided the assist. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Bobby Williams, who had one.

Justin Laforest made 22 saves for the Canadians on 24 shots. Carleton Place incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Grads' Reilly Turner stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Cumberland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
