Clitsome leads Cumberland over Kemptville, 8-4

Behind a great game by Eric Clitsome, who had two goals and three assists, the Cumberland Grads defeated the Kemptville 73s, 8-4.

Clitsome found the back of the net 5:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 16:44 into the first to make the score 5-1 Cumberland.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:08 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Cumberland made 73s' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 62 shots and forcing 54 saves. Billy Cooper made 13 stops and Jacob Tugnutt made 41. The Grads found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Cumberland has scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign. The Grads' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Cumberland finished with 22 penalty minutes.

Cumberland additionally got points from Trevor Packard, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Justin Pelock, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Zach Rodier, who also had one goal and three assists. Cumberland also got a goal from David Wilkie as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Mitch Allen, who had one and Nick Martin, who had four.

Kemptville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game the 73s had been spending in the box.

Kemptville was helped by Brett Varrin, who registered one goal. Varrin scored 4:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kemptville. Jacob Smith assisted on the tally. Kemptville also got points from Jake Butler, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lucas Gonu also scored for Kemptville. More assists for Kemptville came via Zach Lindsay, C Quinn, Joey House, and Nicholas Legault, who contributed one a piece.

Reilly Turner made 18 saves for the Grads on 22 shots. Cumberland registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Team's David Bennett and Allen were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The 73s registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Kemptville, Stephen Cooney, Mason Nowak, Alex Row, and Hayden Hanson were ejected from the contest.
