Maniccia's big game bests Kanata in 7-2 Smiths Falls win

Chris Maniccia had two goals and four assists to lead the Smiths Falls Bears to a 7-2 victory over the Kanata Stallions.

Maniccia scored on the power play at 5:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and again while 3:08 into the second to make the score 4-1 Smiths Falls.

Kanata fell victim to a deadly Smiths Falls power play, which ripped the Stallions for four goals.

The Bears forced Kanata goalie Brandon Lane to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Smiths Falls' goal total was higher than its season average. The Bears have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Smiths Falls also got points from Yannick Crete, who also racked up two goals and two assists and Tyler Akeson, who also had one goal and two assists. Karson McCartney also scored for Smiths Falls. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Nolan Trombetta, who had one and Cameron Romoff and Connor McLaren, who contributed two a piece.

The Stallions were helped by Brandon Petrie, who tallied one goal. Petrie scored 2:16 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Smiths Falls. Niles Owen picked up the assist. Kanata also got a goal from Derian Plouffe as well. More assists for Kanata came via JJ Hart and Fabian Walsh, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls' Jimmy Howe stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Bears ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. Smiths Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Costello was ejected from the game. Brandon Lane made 24 saves for Kanata on 31 shots. The Stallions totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For Kanata, Owen was ejected from the game.
