Kanata uses shootout to best Hawkesbury, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Kanata got a shootout goal from Connor Cobbold.

The Stallions overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Kanata was down 3-1 after a goal by Hawkesbury's Carl Faucher at 3:41 in the third period. The Stallions tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Joe Breslin at 18:34 in the third period.

Kanata excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Stallions' offense rang up 33 shots on the Hawks' net.

Kanata also got a goal from C Blakely as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Reid Murphy, Doug Harvey, Niles Owen, and Alex Stothart, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury stifled Kanata's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks kept the Stallions' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Lane made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Antonio Roumeliotis, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mathieu Galipeau also scored for Hawkesbury. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Brandon Bussey, who had two and Shane Topf and Stefano Momesso, who contributed one a piece.

Kanata totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. The Stallions ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Braedan Moffatt was ejected from the game. Carmine Guerriero recorded 29 saves for Hawkesbury. The Hawks ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. For Hawkesbury, Justin Villeneuve and Ryan Patulli were ejected from the contest.
