Carleton Place wins tough contest against Cumberland, 4-2Navan Memorial Centre Sun, Oct 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Carleton Place Canadians and the Cumberland Grads was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Carleton Place emerged with a 4-2 win. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Alex Frere's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Cumberland's power play was ineffective against the Canadians' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Carleton Place excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Grads were unable to stop the Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Carleton Place eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Canadians were led by Stephen Bayliss, who grabbed two goals. Bayliss scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:58 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Carleton Place had taken the advantage when Cumberland's Trevor Packard got sent off for tripping. Larry Smith assisted on the tally. Bayliss' next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Carleton Place with 24 seconds left in the third period. Anthony McVeigh picked up the assist. Carleton Place additionally got points from Alex Globke, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Luke Edwards, who had one and Evan Peterson, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Nick Martin, who had one and Eric Clitsome, who had two. Tony Kujava made 16 saves for the Canadians on 18 shots. Carleton Place incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Reilly Turner rejected 37 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
