Smiths Falls wins tough contest against Cornwall, 4-2Ed Lumley Arena Thu, Oct 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Smiths Falls Bears gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Cornwall Colts. Smiths Falls gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jeffrey Carroll 12:34 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Carroll had a great game for the Bears, netting two goals. Smiths Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Smiths Falls also got points from Connor McLaren, who also had one goal and one assist. Nic Marchand also scored for Smiths Falls. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Jesse Blais, who had two and Kevin Millejours, Ryan McCaughan, Chris Maniccia, and Patrick Sexton, who contributed one a piece. Cornwall put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bears to score on any of their three power plays. Smiths Falls was unable to stop the Colts from sending pucks towards the net, and Cornwall eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Colts were helped by Kevin Hope, who grabbed one goal. Hope scored 4:56 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cornwall. Jake Bannister assisted on the tally. Cornwall also got a goal from Tanner Spink as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Andrew Ming, Alexandre Gendron, and Jake Martin, who each chipped in one. Patrick Martin made 39 saves for the Bears on 41 shots. Smiths Falls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. James Edwardson rejected 20 shots on goal for Cornwall. The Colts incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. |
