Kanata vanquishes Gloucester in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Gloucester Rangers in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Kanata overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Stallions fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Gloucester's Austin Romzek at 7:11 in the second period. Kanata tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Mitch Kerwin at 18:06 in the third period.

The Stallions got the win on the strength of a great game by Derian Plouffe, who had two goals and one assist. Plouffe scored the first of his two goals at 7:41 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Gloucester. Brandon Petrie picked up the assist. Plouffe's next tally made the score 4-3 Gloucester with 11:23 left in the third period. Kanata had gotten the advantage when the Rangers' Samuel Quaranta was sent off for interference. Curtis Watson assisted on the tally.

The Stallions forced Gloucester goalie Gianmarco De Meis to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Kanata also got points from Petrie, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Cole Hutchinson, Fabian Walsh, and Devin Fullum, who each chipped in one.

The Rangers forced Stallions' netminders to work in net, finishing with 42 shots and forcing 38 saves. Brayden St-Germain made 17 stops and Brandon Lane made 21.

Gloucester was helped by Stevie Ray Adams, who finished with one goal. Adams scored 15:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gloucester. Cory Durocher picked up the assist. Gloucester additionally got points from Matt Rosebrook, who also had one goal and one assist and Romzek, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kyle Leduc also scored for Gloucester. More assists for Gloucester came via Stefan Valvur, Christian Leger, Alexandre Boivin, and Miguel Laurin, who contributed one a piece.

Kanata incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Gianmarco De Meis made 36 saves for the Rangers on 40 shots. Gloucester incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
