The Ottawa Senators tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Kanata Stallions held on for a 6-5 victory. Kanata took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Ottawa storm back on a Greg Jansz goal 19:40 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Stallions were sparked by Alex Stothart, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Stothart scored 17:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kanata. Reid Murphy assisted on the tally. Kanata's goal total was higher than its season average. The Stallions have scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Kanata struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays. Kanata additionally got points from Murphy, who also registered one goal and one assist and Fabian Walsh, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Kanata also got a goal from Devin Fullum as well. In addition, Kanata received assists from Derian Plouffe, who had two and Nic LaBurn, Mike Zajac, C Blakely, Joe Breslin, and Brandon Petrie, who contributed one a piece. The Senators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Ottawa kept the Stallions' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Lane made 52 saves on 57 shots. The Senators were led by Ryan Collins, who racked up one goal and two assists. Collins scored on the power play 9:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kanata. Ottawa earned a power play opportunity when Plouffe was put in the box for slashing. Derek Brown picked up the assist. Ottawa also got points from Joe Shecter, who also had one goal and one assist. Joey Champigny also scored for Ottawa. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Luc Deschamps, who had two and Stephen Inman, Owen Werthner, Justin Charbonneau, and Ben Robillard, who each chipped in one. The Senators' Charlie Millen stopped 15 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Ottawa ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Senators, Marc Shanks was ejected from the game. |
