Cornwall uses shootout to best Nepean, 6-5 (2-1 SO)Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Sun, Oct 14, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cornwall Colts defeated the Nepean Raiders in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Nepean's shootout goal was scored by Phil Nasca. Cornwall also got a shootout goal from Marly Quince.The Colts came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cornwall trailed 3-0 after a power play goal by the Raiders' Steven Johnston at 7:30 in the second period. The Colts knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Johnston at 15:55 in the third period. Cornwall got the win with help from a great game by Quince, who had four goals and one assist. Quince's first goal came 12:05 into the second period. He then added goals at 13:16 into the second, at 17:47 into the second, and at 14:23 into the third. The Colts' offense rang up 47 shots on Nepean's net. Cornwall surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Colts average 3.9 goals per game. Cornwall also got points from Roman Ammirato, who also had one goal and three assists. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Kevin Hope, who had two and Michael Pontarelli, who had four. The Raiders kept Cornwall's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Piccolino made 45 saves on 50 shots. Nepean was helped by Keenan Hodgson, who registered two goals. Hodgson scored the first of his two goals at 8:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Nepean. Brandon Watt picked up the assist. Hodgson's next tally made the score 4-4 with 9:18 left in the third period. Nepean additionally got points from Dalen Hedges, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Nepean came via Andrew DeBrincat, who had three and Tanner Williams, Kenneth Neil, and Brett Shaples, who each chipped in one. The Colts incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Matt Zawadzki made 41 saves for the Raiders on 46 shots. Nepean incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
