Kemptville shrugs off penalties, upends Brockville, 5-2

The Brockville Braves failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Kemptville 73s shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Kemptville was paced by Jesse Lussier, who had one goal and one assist. Lussier scored 18:19 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Kemptville. Zach Lindsay assisted on the tally.

The 73s had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

Kemptville additionally got points from Lindsay, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Kemptville included Kevin Valenti, who had one and Brett Varrin, who had two. More assists for Kemptville came via Blaine Byron, who had two and Brian Taylor, Stephen Cooney, Lucas Gonu, Mason Nowak, Alex Row, and Hayden Hanson, who contributed one a piece.

Brockville was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages.

The Braves were led by Chris Roll, who registered one goal and one assist. Roll scored on the power play 27 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kemptville. David Ferreira picked up the assist. Ben Blasko also scored for Brockville. Other players who recorded assists for Brockville were Zach Todd and Griffen Molino, who each chipped in one.

Billy Cooper recorded 25 saves for Kemptville. The 73s incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Brockville's Matthew Jenkins stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Braves incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
