Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Hawkesbury got a shootout goal from Pietro Antonelli. Ottawa's other shootout goal was scored by Ryan Collins.The Senators came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Ottawa was down 3-1 after a goal by the Hawks' Anthony Guaiani at 19:13 in the second period. The Senators knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Collins at 8:15 in the third period. Ottawa got the win on the strength of a great game by Michael Evelyn, who had one goal and two assists. Evelyn scored 18:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. Collins picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:36 into the first period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts. The Senators kept Hawkesbury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Carmine Guerriero made 50 saves on 54 shots. Ottawa also got points from Collins, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Joe Shecter also scored for Ottawa. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Cameron Roth, who had one and Ben Robillard, who had two. The Hawks' offense rang up 45 shots on Ottawa's net. Hawkesbury was helped by Brandon Bussey, who had one goal. Bussey scored 4:20 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Hawkesbury. Francis Landers assisted on the tally. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Yanik Laliberte as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Carl Faucher, who had two and Shane Topf and William Plamondon, who contributed one a piece. Charlie Millen rejected 42 shots on goal for the Senators. Ottawa totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Senators, Luc Deschamps and Derek Brown were ejected from the contest. The Hawks totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Team's Ross Kovacs and Jesse Turrin were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
