Nepean wins tough contest against Cumberland, 5-3Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Wed, Oct 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Nepean Raiders escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Cumberland Grads. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Kenneth Neil secured the win for Nepean with a goal in the second period. The Raiders were sparked by Keenan Hodgson, who registered one goal. Hodgson scored on the power play 4:50 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Nepean. Nepean had gained a power play chance when Nicholas Leguerrier was whistled for roughing. Brent Norris assisted on the tally. The Raiders were paced by Hodgson, who finished with one goal. Nepean's offense rang up 38 shots on Cumberland's net. Nepean additionally got points from Dalen Hedges, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Brandon Watt, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Neil, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Vincent Llorca also scored for Nepean. More assists for Nepean came via Steven Johnston and Michael Vered, who contributed one a piece and Maxim Cote and Tanner Williams, who each chipped in two. The Grads kept the Raiders' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Zawadzki made 31 saves on 34 shots. Cumberland was led by Nick Martin, who finished with two goals. Martin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A tripping penalty on Wyatt Coghill had put the Grads on the power play. Mark Golberg provided the assist. Martin's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Cumberland with 14:46 left in the second period. Golberg picked up the assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Travis Douglas as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Zach Rodier, who had two and David Wilkie and Justin Pelock, who contributed one a piece. Nepean incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Devan Tremblay recorded 33 saves for Cumberland. The Grads incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
