Kanata vanquishes Smiths Falls in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Kanata came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Stallions was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Smiths Falls' Michael Buonincontri at 10:02 in the second period. Kanata knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Buonincontri at 12:21 in the third period.

With three goals and three assists between them, Brandon Petrie and Derian Plouffe teamed up to power the Stallions' offense. Petrie tallied two goals and one assist and Plouffe also notched one goal and two assists.

Kanata forced the Bears goalie Jimmy Howe to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Kanata additionally got points from Plouffe, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Mike Zajac, Joe Breslin, and Devin Fullum, who contributed one a piece.

Smiths Falls' offense rang up 36 shots on the Stallions' net.

Connor McLaren also scored for Smiths Falls. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Yannick Crete, who had two and Chris MacMillan, Chris Maniccia, Jesse Blais, and Tyler Akeson, who each chipped in one.

Kanata's Brandon Lane stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Stallions incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Howe rejected 34 shots on goal for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
