Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kemptville 73s defeated the Gloucester Rangers in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.Kemptville saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The 73s made the score 4-2 on a power play goal by Brett Varrin at 15:17 in the second period. Gloucester evened things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Christian Leger at 9:29 in the third period. Varrin was all over the ice for Kemptville, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Varrin scored the first of his two goals short handed at 7:01 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kemptville. A slashing call on Lucas Gonu put the 73s on the penalty kill. Shane Snow provided the assist. Varrin's next tally short handed made the score Kemptville with 4:43 left in the second period. Kemptville had gained a power play chance when Gianmarco De Meis was whistled for cross checking. Gonu picked up the assist. The 73s forced the Rangers goalie De Meis to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Kemptville bested its season scoring average. The 73s have scored at the pace of 2.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Kemptville also got points from Gonu, who also registered one goal and one assist. Kemptville also got a goal from Zach Lindsay as well. More assists for Kemptville came via Dylan BrindAmour, who had one and Blaine Byron, who had two. Gloucester kept Kemptville's goalie busy throughout the game, and BrindAmour made 29 saves on 33 shots. The Rangers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Gloucester was helped by Matt Rosebrook, who finished with three goals. Gloucester additionally got points from Leger, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Keegan Rowe, Austin Romzek, and Travis Meyer, who contributed one a piece. The 73s incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Rangers' De Meis stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Gloucester incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
