Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Kemptville 73s in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Kanata came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Stallions trailed 3-2 after a goal by Kemptville's Blaine Byron at 14:53 in the third period. Kanata knotted things up at 3-3 on a short handed goal by Curtis Watson at 17:12 in the third period. The Stallions put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the 73s to score on any of their five power plays. Kanata kept Kemptville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Billy Cooper made 27 saves on 31 shots. The Stallions were led by Brandon Petrie, who had one goal and one assist. Petrie scored on the power play 17:52 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kanata had gotten the advantage when the 73s' Brad Vaughn was sent off for high sticking. Derian Plouffe assisted on the tally. Devin Fullum also scored for Kanata. In addition, Kanata received assists from Nic LaBurn, Mike Zajac, and Fabian Walsh, who each chipped in one. The Stallions were unable to stop Kemptville from sending pucks towards the net, and the 73s eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Kemptville was helped by Alex Row, who grabbed one goal. Row scored 7:47 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Brian Taylor provided the assist. Kemptville also got a goal from Lucas Gonu as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville were Matt Martin, Cody Hendsbee, and Brett Varrin, who contributed one a piece. Brandon Lane made 37 saves for Kanata on 40 shots. The Stallions incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The 73s incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
