Carleton Place holds on for 7-5 win against Kemptville

The Kemptville 73s tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Carleton Place Canadians would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 7-5.

A goal by Kevin Dufour put Carleton Place up 7-4 in the third period, but Kemptville pulled to within two on Jesse Lussier's tally 19:51 into the third period.

Michael Maciag had two goals and two assists to lead the Canadians. Maciag scored the first of his two goals at 10:57 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Alex Globke provided the assist. Maciag's next tally made the score 5-4 Carleton Place with 13:03 left in the third period. Carleton Place had gained a power play chance when Lucas Gonu was whistled for cross checking. Dufour assisted on the tally.

The 73s were unable to stop the Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Carleton Place eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Canadians found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Carleton Place has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The Canadians were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. Carleton Place's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Dufour, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Luke Martin also scored for Carleton Place. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Luke Formica, Elias Ghantous, and Alex Frere, who each chipped in one and Brandon Seatter, Nic Erb, and Luke Kasteel, who contributed two a piece.

Kemptville was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time.

Kemptville also got points from Lussier, who also had one goal and one assist. Kemptville also got a goal from Cody Hendsbee as well. More assists for Kemptville came via Matt Martin, Matt Shackell, Ben St Marseille, and Matt Tugnutt, who each chipped in one and Blaine Byron and Stephen Cooney, who contributed two a piece.

The Canadians' starting goalie, Justin Laforest, made 14 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Matt Couvrette, who stopped seven shots. Carleton Place registered three goals on six power play opportunities. For the Canadians, Stephen Bayliss was ejected from the game. Billy Cooper recorded 25 saves for the 73s. Kemptville registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The 73s ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shackell was ejected from the game.
