Cornwall falls to Hawkesbury after surprising comeback

The Hawkesbury Hawks rallied from three goals down to secure an 8-6 win over the Cornwall Colts.

Hawkesbury let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a three hole to pick up the win. The Hawks took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Carl Faucher at 1:30 in the first period. Hawkesbury found itself down 6-3 after Cornwall's Khalid Alli put the puck home on the power play at 4:34 in the third period. After tying things up at 6-6 on a power play goal by Francis Landers at 9:13 in the third, the Hawks got the game-winner from Antonio Roumeliotis at 15:58 in the third period.

Hawkesbury outdid its season average for goals scored. The Hawks average 3.4 goals per game. Hawkesbury was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play.

The Hawks were helped by Brandon Bussey, who finished with three goals and three assists. Hawkesbury also got points from Landers, who also registered three goals and three assists and Faucher, who also had one goal and three assists. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Anthony Guaiani, who had one and Yanik Laliberte, Holden Anderson, and Pietro Antonelli, who each chipped in two.

The Colts bested their season scoring average. Cornwall has scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Colts were led by Trent Durocher, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Durocher scored the first of his two goals at 3:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall. Billy Ulrick picked up the assist. Durocher's next tally made the score 3-1 Cornwall with 16:18 left in the second period. Cornwall additionally got points from Sean King, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Alli, who also registered one goal and one assist. Nicholas Santoro also scored for Cornwall. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Roman Ammirato, Marly Quince, Stephen Johnson, and Kevin Hope, who contributed one a piece.

Carmine Guerriero took the win and made 13 saves before being replaced by Brock Crossthwaite who made two saves. Hawkesbury incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cornwall's starting goalie, Matt Jenkins, made 20 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jordan Piccolino, who stopped zero shots. The Colts incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
