Ottawa uses shootout to best Cumberland, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Cumberland Grads in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Cumberland got a shootout goal from Mark Golberg. Ottawa's other shootout goal was scored by Luc Deschamps.

The Senators saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Ottawa made the score 4-1 on a short handed goal by Ben Robillard at 11:38 in the third period. The Grads evened things up at 4-4 on a short handed goal by Nick Martin at 19:23 in the third period.

The Senators kept Cumberland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Reilly Turner made 31 saves on 36 shots. Ottawa's power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on nine chances.

The Senators were helped by Hunter Racine, who had one goal and one assist. Racine scored 16:35 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. Robillard assisted on the tally. Ottawa additionally got points from Eric Witzel, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Robillard, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Deschamps also scored for Ottawa. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Derek Brown, Dylan Giberson, and Michael Evelyn, who each chipped in one.

The Grads stifled Ottawa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Cumberland was helped by Golberg, who tallied one goal. Golberg scored on the power play 17:29 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Ottawa. The Grads earned a power play opportunity when Robillard was put in the box for roughing. Zach Rodier provided the assist. Cumberland also got points from Silas Neeposh, who also had one goal and one assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Colin Kruse as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Philippe Paquette, who had two and Eric Clitsome and Sean Naish, who contributed one a piece.

The Senators' Ryan McLaughlin stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Ottawa incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Cumberland incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
