Kemptville holds on for 3-2 win against Hawkesbury

The Hawkesbury Hawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Kemptville 73s would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Alex Row put Kemptville up 3-1 in the third period, but Hawkesbury pulled to within one on Carl Faucher's tally 15:02 into the third period.

The Hawks' power play was ineffective against the 73s' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Hawkesbury was unable to stop Kemptville from sending pucks towards the net, and the 73s eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Team could not crack the Hawks' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Kemptville also got points from Joey House, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Lucas Gonu also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Blaine Byron and Mason Nowak, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury managed to stay out of the box for the most part, totaling nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks finished with less than their 38.0 minutes average penalties per game. Hawkesbury's offense rang up 42 shots on Kemptville's net.

The Hawks were helped by Brandon Bussey, who registered one goal and one assist. Bussey scored on the power play 6:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kemptville. Hawkesbury had gotten the advantage when the 73s' Shane Snow was sent off for slashing. Faucher picked up the assist. Hawkesbury additionally got points from Faucher, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Holden Anderson and Ryan Patulli, who contributed one a piece.

Billy Cooper rejected 40 shots on goal for Kemptville. The 73s ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. Kemptville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gonu was ejected from the game. Brock Crossthwaite recorded 30 saves for the Hawks. Team's Brett Costello and Stefano Momesso were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
