Smiths Falls hangs on, beats Carleton Place 4-2

Nic Marchand gave the Smiths Falls Bears the lead in the first period, and the Carleton Place Canadians was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2.

Smiths Falls took over the lead for good with a goal by Marchand at 14:39 in the first period. The Bears had gained a power play chance when Brock Edwards was whistled for tripping. Connor McLaren picked up the assist.

Marchand had a great game for Smiths Falls, netting two goals.

Carleton Place was unable to stop the Bears from sending pucks towards the net, and Smiths Falls eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from McLaren, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Michael Buonincontri also scored for Smiths Falls. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Jeffrey Carroll, who had two and Ryan McCaughan, Cole Allard, and Yannick Crete, who contributed one a piece.

The Canadians forced the Bears goalie Patrick Martin to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Carleton Place could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Bears' Martin stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Smiths Falls incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Matt Couvrette made 31 saves for the Canadians on 35 shots. Carleton Place registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
