Nepean shrugs off penalties, upends Pembroke, 6-2

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Nepean Raiders were able to defeat the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 6-2.

Nepean was led by Cameron Yarwood, who finished with one goal. Yarwood scored on the power play 16:24 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Nepean. The Raiders had gotten the advantage when Pembroke's Stephen Hrehoriak was sent off for goalie interference. Brent Norris picked up the assist.

Nepean forced the Lumber Kings goalie Andy Munroe to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Raiders found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Nepean has scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign. The Raiders took advantage of Pembroke's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities. The defensemen of Nepean were also effective in the Lumber Kings' zone, and came away with two goals.

Nepean also got points from Derek Diaz, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Dalen Hedges, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Norris, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Andrew DeBrincat, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Robert Sokol also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Matt Zawadzki, Tanner Williams, Brandon Watt, Vincent Llorca, and Steven Johnston, who contributed one a piece.

Pembroke's offense rang up 37 shots on the Raiders' net.

The Lumber Kings were helped by JJ Hart, who tallied one goal. Hart scored 2:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Jordan Larson assisted on the tally. Pembroke also got a goal from Brian Hennessey as well. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Michael Crocock, Brendan Mcguire, and Keegan Harper, who each chipped in one.

Zawadzki rejected 35 shots on goal for Nepean. The Raiders incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Munroe recorded 36 saves for Pembroke. The Lumber Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
