GAME RECAP

Cornwall holds on for 2-1 win against Nepean

Kanata Recreational Complex A    Sun, Sep 09, 2012

The Nepean Raiders tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Cornwall Colts held on for a 2-1 victory.

Cornwall took a 2-0 lead during the third period, only to have Nepean storm back on a Dalen Hedges goal 13:33 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Colts' Jordan Piccolino was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Piccolino will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Cornwall was sparked by Kevin Hope, who had one goal. Hope scored 12:12 into the third period to make the score Cornwall. Roman Ammirato assisted on the tally.

The Colts stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Trent Durocher also scored for Cornwall. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Andrew Ming, Khalid Alli, and Jake Martin, who contributed one a piece.

Nepean's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Cornwall power plays. Cornwall was unable to stop the Raiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Nepean eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Andrew DeBrincat, who had one.

The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Matt Zawadzki recorded 27 saves for the Raiders. Nepean incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
