Smiths Falls downs Cumberland in overtime, 7-6 (OT)Kanata Recreational Complex A Sat, Sep 08, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Smiths Falls Bears' Chris Maniccia scored 4:10 into overtime to beat the Cumberland Grads, 7-6 (OT). Maniccia was all over the ice for Smiths Falls, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Maniccia scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:07 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Smiths Falls. The Bears had gained a power play chance when David Wilkie was whistled for hooking. Yannick Crete assisted on the tally. Maniccia's next tally on the power play made the score 7-6 Smiths Falls with 15:50 left in overtime. Michael Buonincontri provided the assist. Cumberland's 10 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Grads let up five goals while on the penalty kill. Smiths Falls forced Cumberland goalie Reilly Turner to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Smiths Falls also got points from Crete, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jeffrey Carroll, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Smiths Falls included Patrick Sexton, who had one and Nic Marchand, who had two. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Connor McLaren, who had two and Tyler Akeson, who had four. The Grads kept the Bears' goalie busy throughout the game, and Patrick Martin made 28 saves on 34 shots. Cumberland was led by Nick Martin, who registered two goals and one assist. Martin scored the first of his two goals at 8:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cumberland. Alex Carlson assisted on the tally. Martin's next tally made the score 5-4 Smiths Falls with 2:02 left in the second period. The Grads had gotten the advantage when Smiths Falls' Kevin Millejours was sent off for tripping. Carlson picked up the assist. Cumberland also had goals scored by Philippe Paquette, who had two and Justin Pelock and Sean Naish, who each put in one. More assists for Cumberland came via Eric Clitsome, who had four and Travis Douglas, Matthew Morin, Zach Rodier, and Mark Golberg, who each chipped in one. The Bears incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Turner rejected 29 shots on goal for Cumberland. The Grads incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
