Fairbanks survives Wenatchee comeback, wins 3-1Town Toyota Center Thu, Apr 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Wenatchee Wild on the way to a 3-1 win. A goal by Alec Hajdukovich put Fairbanks up 3-0 in the third period, but Wenatchee pulled to within two on Trace Redmond's tally 19:09 into the third period. The win by the Ice Dogs clinched the best of five series at 3-0. Fairbanks was led by Garret Clemment, who racked up one goal. Clemment scored short handed 15:56 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Fairbanks. The Ice Dogs played down a man on Jeff Earnest's holding. Max Birkinbine assisted on the tally. Fairbanks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Wenatchee power plays. The Ice Dogs' offense rang up 32 shots on the Wild's net. Gabe Levin also scored for Fairbanks. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Nick Hinz and Rudy Sulmonde, who each chipped in one. Wenatchee stifled Fairbanks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Wild relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Redmond, Ben Carey and Matt Cope took 14 of the team's 25 shots. More assists for Wenatchee came via Dylan Abood, who had one. The Ice Dogs' Alex Fons stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Fairbanks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Greg Lewis made 29 saves for Wenatchee on 32 shots. The Wild incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. |
