St. Louis wins tough contest against Amarillo, 3-2

The St. Louis Bandits and the Amarillo Bulls were evenly matched throughout their contest, but St. Louis made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Joe Kalisz's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Bandits were led by Kalisz, who racked up one goal and one assist. Kalisz scored 4:58 into the third period to make the score 3-2 St. Louis. Rance Hughes assisted on the tally.

St. Louis managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Bandits ended up below its season average of 5.0 penalty minutes per game.

Stephen Bopp also scored for St. Louis. Other players who recorded assists for St. Louis were Greg Johnson, Joseph Birmingham, and Luc Boby, who each chipped in one.

Amarillo was helped by John Gustafsson, who tallied one goal. Gustafsson scored 10:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Amarillo. Joe Kozlak provided the assist. Amarillo also got a goal from Karl Beckman as well. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Mike Erickson, Omar Mullan, and Zane Popilock, who contributed one a piece.

St. Louis' Spencer Viele stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Bandits registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Mike Taffe made 21 saves for the Bulls on 24 shots. Amarillo incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
