Texas holds on for 5-4 win against Port Huron

The Port Huron Fighting Falcons tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Texas Tornado would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

Texas took a 5-3 lead during the second period, only to have Port Huron storm back on a Logan Lemirande goal 5:45 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Jackson Leef was all over the ice for the Tornado, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Leef scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:08 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Texas. Texas had taken the advantage when the Fighting Falcons' Bret Lewandowski got sent off for checking from behind. Taylor Herndon assisted on the tally. Leef's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Texas with 11:33 left in the second period. Jordan Lovick picked up the assist.

Port Huron was unable to stop the Tornado from sending pucks towards the net, and Texas eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Texas additionally got points from Lovick, who also registered one goal and one assist. Drew Allen also scored for Texas. More assists for Texas came via John Kirtland, who had two and Michael Hoy, Lucas Whelan, and Drew Mayer, who contributed one a piece.

The Fighting Falcons relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Nolan Valleau, Brett DAndrea and Alex Globke took 10 of the team's 19 shots.

Port Huron was helped by Mike Moroso, who had one goal. Moroso scored 5:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Huron. Lemirande provided the assist. Port Huron also got points from DAndrea, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Lemirande, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Ian Miller and Sean Gammage, who each chipped in one.

The Tornado's Frederick Leisner stopped 15 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Texas totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Max Milosek rejected 29 shots on goal for the Fighting Falcons. Port Huron totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
