Amarillo rides Gruehl to victory over Topeka, 3-1Kansas ExpoCentre Fri, Apr 27, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Gregg Gruehl had a standout game with 25 saves, and the Amarillo Bulls beat the Topeka RoadRunners 3-1. The win by Amarillo clinched the best of five series at 3-1. The Bulls were led by TJ Sarcona, who had one goal. Sarcona scored 17:44 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Amarillo. Karl Beckman provided the assist. Amarillo stifled Topeka's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulls' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 13 shots between them. Amarillo additionally got points from Matt Johnson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Amarillo also got a goal from Mike Erickson as well. In addition, Amarillo received assists from John Rey and Omar Mullan, who each chipped in one. The RoadRunners' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Amarillo power plays. Topeka was led by Ryan White, who scored the team's only goal. White scored 14:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Sean Gaffney assisted on the tally. Amarillo ended with 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. The RoadRunners' Peter Traber stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Topeka totaled 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play.
